As February 14 approaches rapidly the thoughts of candy- filled hearts and chocolate kisses race to the minds of teachers and students at FDSH. Some chose to treasure the holiday as a time to cherish each other’s relationships, while others chose to ignore the holiday completely. Little Dodger chose to investigate a group of six students and teachers to see the variety of gifts received and given on Valentine’s Day. Who knows, maybe it’ll spark your imagination to do something for your special someone this holiday season.

Well- known teachers Fran Long and Barbara Long have been celebrating Valentine’s Day together now for 35 years. Fran Long said his favorite holiday gift was when he received a preserved cow heart from Barbara while she received a book of Spanish verbs and all their tenses from him.

As we know, every Valentine’s Day couple sometimes wishes they could’ve gotten their special someone something even better. Fran said he wished he would’ve have gotten Barbara “a cupcake in a shape of a preserved heart with rib frosting,” while Barbara said “a stuffed dead cat” was her top choice for an excellent gift.

But husband and wives aren’t the only ones who worry about what they will get their sweetheart for Valentine’s Day. Sophomore Tatum Baade and junior Rachel Amhof also shared what they gave and seized on previous Valentine’s Days.

Baade stated, “ I just get candy from my nanna.” While she has given a digital picture frame key chain before. But what Baade adores the most is a “ hot air balloon ride.” But Baade wasn’t the only one who was pondering larger gifts for herself and her special someone. Rachel Amhof stated she got a “white diamond gold ring” from her parents and would admire going to Rome, Italy for a dream Valentine’s Day vacation.

Many times the men often times thinks of a smaller, but sentimental gift while the women dream of diamond rings and expensive vacations. Seniors Miguel Secor and Taylor Getting have their focus on the prize this Valentine’s Day, but let’s review what they have granted and acquired in the past.

On one Valentine’s Day instance, Secor bought a dozen rose, made a poster saying “Will you be my Valentine?,” got a balloon said, “Happy Valentine’s Day,” and waited by his special someones car until she was done with basketball. While he received a card and was taken out to dinner. Secor imagines a Valentine’s Day on a “beach with a sunset, and ending the night with stargazing.”

Taylor Getting has also pursued many Valentine’s Day occasions. He gave his valentine a nice balloon, with pink roses and a pink pursey thingy,” as described by Getting. He also was given a card and balloon. Getting also has a goal of buying a “pink Ferrari”for his Valentine someday.

The truth is, no matter what you give or receive it is the thought that counts. From cards to romantic dates, always remember that there is a meaning behind the gift. Gift or no gift, learn how to cherish the holiday for what it is worth.
