Five for Girls

1. Day planner. Time management skills will be crucial to keep track of classes, activities for clubs and organizations, and possibly a job.

2. Personal care items. College is very stressful, so some self-indulgent items like facials or lotions will help your friend take it easy while looking her best. Shower gel, towels, wash cloths and a bath poof are great additions.

3. Scrapbook. Put together a scrapbook of pictures of you and your friend. While it may be time consuming, your friend will cherish it forever.

4. Room décor. If you know what colors or patterns your friend is using in her dorm, give her some décor to match. Desk accessories would be helpful, but something like a picture frame with a picture of you together will be appreciated.

5. Shopping gift cards. Give your friend a gift card for her favorite store, and offer to go shopping with her to buy new clothes for college.

Five For Guys

1. Cash. After paying for college, books, and an open house, most graduates will be a little short of spending money. Slipping a few bills in a card also makes a great gift because it is versatile. You may give as much or as little as your budget allows or according to how well you knew the recipient. Also, giving cash is fool proof because your friend can use it for something they really want.

2. Gas cards. These are perfect for friends who are going to college out of town. With gas prices rising so high, a little extra help could allow them to come home more often, easing their transition to college life.

3. Restaurant gift cards. They will probably want to hang out with their new found friends at college, so a gift card to a restaurant will come in handy. Make sure the restaurant is located wherever they will be going to school.

4. Day Planner. A planner that includes lots of space for writing daily tasks as well as a monthly calendar will allow them to make the best use of their time.

5. ITunes card. Like cash, an itunes card is a versatile gift that anyone can use.
