Every summer, the high school undergoes several physical changes. While some are obvious, others can go unnoticed for most of the school year.

This summer, one of the biggest assets the high school gained was the individual phones that are currently installed in each teacher’s room. Spanish teacher Barb Long thinks the phones are a great convenience.

"The phones are very nice if I can figure them out. They are nice for calling parents because I used to use my cell phone but that’s not the best idea. The phones will help to keep better track of students’ attendance," said Long.

The high school also invested in new computers in rooms 7, 58, 62 and 59. The new computers have the latest Adobe Photoshop and Computer Aided Drafting programs installed.

One change that is still in the process is cleaning out the machine shop. Once the machine shop is cleared out, it will be used as a classroom for the new construction class that the high school will have.

As students may have noticed, some teachers have switched or moved their classrooms to a different location. The choir and orchestra rooms switched as well as English teacher John McBride’s classroom. McBride’s room moved from its location upstairs to room 59 in the hallway by the swimming pool.

All of the changes the high school underwent were completed this summer. District painters, carpenters and technicians worked all summer to help switch rooms, paint, install the new computers and phones and to begin cleaning out the machine shop.

The girls’ swimming locker room also received some minor upgrades. The tiling in the showers was fixed, some painting was done and a new layer of flooring was put over the old one.

Future changes for the high school are also being proposed. One of those changes may involve the Student Center receiving a makeover.

"Because of the new schedule change next year, I would really like to see the Student Center be re-done," said Principal Dave Keane.

Keane would like to see the Student Center be converted into something like a student lounge. He feels that it would put the Student Center to better use and would utilize the large space more efficiently.

"A big reason why we are making all of these changes is to prepare for the schedule change next year. It’s going to be confusing for kids at first but hopefully the room changes and other changes will make the transition into a new schedule smooth," said Keane.
