The freshman girls’ basketball team is rolling at 7-4, including a current five game winning streak.

A lot of their success has come from the help of freshman point guard Tieryn Potratz.

Potratz has been playing basketball since early in her life, due especially to her family.

“My parents and my older sister have always pushed me to become a better athlete,” she says.

Potratz began playing competetive basketball at a young age and has continued ever since.

“I first played competitively for a travelling team in fifth grade,” said Potratz.

Potratz not only excels in ball-handling skills and shooting, but she is also a very hard worker and a leader on the court. Just as imperative, Potratz has the mental aspect of the game down.

Head freshman coach Bryan Friedrichs comments, “Tieryn is smart—she knows what she’s doing—she’s got the mental part of the game down.”

Another important attribute that Potratz has on the hardwood is her ability to bring leadership to the floor.

Friedrichs says, “She’s the coach on the floor. She knows where everyone on the team needs to be.”

As the season continues, Potratz sets her goals individually and for the team.

“As a team, hopefully, we can continue to play hard and end with a winning season.”

“Individually, I hope to continue to improve as a basketball player.”
