When sitting down with Buster Posey following his much anticipated college signing, he was still filled with excitement from the previous week. On November 11 in front of many friends, family, and baseball coaches Buster gripped a pen in his right hand and made a decision concerning the next four years of his life. Upon this signing, Buster committed to playing baseball and attending Florida State University if he chooses to attend college in the fall.
When asked about how FSU was chosen, he revealed considered many colleges. Earlier in the school year, Buster traveled to Georgia Tech, University of Georgia, Stanford, and Florida State. After visiting these schools he felt he could make the biggest impact as a player and student at FSU. He said he felt very comfortable and at ease with the FSU coaches and his future team mates. As far as his family and friends were concerned they pushed in all directions from the Stanford supporters who encouraged him to go to California to the die hard Georgia fans who were itching to see Buster don red, black, and white. However, after considering his options and choices, Buster went with his gut and where he felt most comfortable. If he decides to attend college in the fall, he will be jogging onto the baseball diamond wearing garnet and gold.
At Florida State, Buster hopes to grow as a person and a player and plans to major in business. Concerning his fears of being away from home for the first time, Buster says, “I don’t have so much of a fear of being away, but more of a feeling of not knowing what to expect.” However, he feels the summer trips to Missouri and more recently to Taiwan have prepared him for college life and have given him a taste of what living without parents will be like.
Though many rumors have flown concerning Buster and the MLB draft, which does not occur until early June, he revealed a decision has not been made and the Posey household is just taking one day at a time. Some critics argue an education is most important regardless of talents in sports. However, Buster feels getting an education is top priority. If the opportunity to be drafted arises and it is the right time and the right place, he and his family are not opposed to him playing in the major leagues directly out of high school.
For now, the Posey family is satisfied.
