As the tennis season continues, the Lee County High School tennis team maintains its outstanding record. Wins against Tri-County, Crisp, Westover, Cairo, and losses against THESE and Americus-Sumter leave Lee County’s boys team with a 7-1 record and the girls team with a 6-2 record. The two region matches that have occurred leave the boys team with a 1-1 record and the girls team with a 0-2 record. Upcoming matches include: HERE. Against Crisp County, Michael Brooks and the teams of Scott Belanger/Zach McCalvin and Josh Albert/Matt Wilson won against Jordan Smith and the teams of Jerrett Little/Adam Morgan and Walt Harpe/Adam Sumner, respectively. Additionally, Whitney Varner, Ashley Keen, and the teams of Haley Joiner/Jennifer Reed and Sarah Jeffcoat/Paige Varner won against Michelle Worn, Carly Junkins, and the teams of Halie Hogsed/Laura Sims and Desiree Farmer/Erica Owens, respectively. Lee County won the match for both the boys’ and girls ‘teams.

At Cairo, only the girls’ team played and defeated the Syrupmakers 3-2 in match play. They came home with another victory after stopping at McDonald’s, finding little left that the servers had the materials to make, and avoiding a disturbance with another bus load of hungry fellows. Whitney Varner was beaten in her match after narrowly losing the final tiebreaker, 6-3, 6-7, (6-10).

Lee County participated in the Bainbridge NAME and the boys team completed with a total of NUM wins, while the girls finished with NUM wins.

On April 5, Lee County faced Americus-Sumter at home. The boys finished #-#, securing their way to the state competition; however, the girls team lost 2-3, leaving them with a renewed effort for the future region matches.
