“KONY 2012-Make Him Famous” By now most of you have probably heard of this campaign or have seen it yourself. If you have not, let me give you a breakdown of what it is all about.

Several years ago a guy and a few of his friends went to a poor, war-torn country in Africa named Uganda, while they were there they found children in a school house running for their lives from a man named Joseph Kony. Kony for of twenty years has been abducting children from their homes and families and turning the little girls into slaves, and the boys into his own militia.

Now the Kony 2012 campaign is a project formed by a group called Invisible Children. They have been non-stop trying to get the U.S. to intervene and get U.S. soldiers to deploy in the country. And in October 2011 they did just that. President Barrack Obama himself wrote a letter to the Invisible Children saying that he has sent 100 U.S. troops to the African country.

The reason behind KONY 2012 is to bring everybody together and make the warlord famous!  Bringing light to the subject that there are far greater problems going on around the rest of the world than what the United States has (such as gas prices).

Now you may think to yourself, “this is such a great program to help people!” however, there has been lots of dispute about the entire subject. Some scholars say that 38% of donations go to the staff. Some people even state that an attack from Kony has not happened in over 5 years, people believe that perhaps Kony is dead.

However if you ask me, whether or not Kony is dead, whether or not he is still a threat, I believe that to see light brought on the subject is fantastic. I love to see people from other nations all come together to raise awareness on the subject that children far away have much greater problems to fear for then what we have.
