Everybody wants their 15 minutes of fame.
   The status of celebrity tempts millions of people.  Many people seek it through the internet on sites such as youtube, where they can post videos of themselves doing all sorts of crazy things, but is the goal of being a celebrity an honorable aim?

   A poll done by Pew Research Center found that 51% of 18 to 25 year olds said that their most important goal in life is to become famous. The only goal that was more popular was becoming rich.

   This is a scary statistic considering that the most publicized celebrities are usually known for partying and having dramatic love lives. It seems that the celebrities who have successful careers are rarely talked about. Doesn’t this send a bad message to those who have the hopes of stardom? It seems that in today’s Hollywood that to become famous you have to do something scandalous.

   This trend of the personal lives of stars being more well known than their professional accomplishments is encouraged by the public. If tabloids and gossip columns weren’t read and TV entertainment shows not watched then perhaps the press and paparazzi would focus on something else.

   Instead of looking up to celebrities as role models, shouldn’t teenagers look up to parents and teachers? These adults are close by and are more likely better influences. This will give teens a better perspective and more realistic goals.
