At-a-glance

Advertising
Many Keystone students begin to stress about college applications and admissions at this time of the year. Fortunately, Keystone National High School has recently admitted a new counselor to assist students in the college process. Mr. Jeremy Trotter is the newest staff member to join the faculty of Keystone National High School. Mr. Trotter comes to Keystone School as a certified Oregon guidance counselor. He has a Masters degree in School Counseling from Oregon State University. Mr. Trotter has helped numerous students receive acceptance from the top universities in the United States. Recently, I sat down with Mr. Trotter and asked him a few questions about his personal experiences in the education work force and his life.

What exactly is it like being a guidance counselor Keystone National High School? How do you help students? Being a guidance counselor at Keystone National High School is quite different from what I am used to. Instead of interacting with students face-to-face, I have to get to know them through e-mails and phone calls. My job, especially at this time of the year, is to help students figure out what college suits their personal and financial needs. I also help students in the college application process by supplying information on topics such as mid-year reports and teacher recommendations.

How long have you been a guidance counselor? What made you choose Keystone? I have been a guidance counselor for fourteen years. I chose Keystone because it provides me with a new challenge. I have never developed an online high school guidance program. Also, the fact that you get to communicate with students from all over the world makes the job even more interesting!

What other schools have you been a guidance counselor at? I am a certified guidance counselor in the state of Oregon. I have also been a guidance counselor at the American School of Doha in Qatar and International School of Manila in the Philippines.

What is your favorite part of being a guidance counselor? My favorite part of being a guidance counselor is communicating and interacting with the students. I enjoy talking with students and parents through Elluminate. Also, I like to see students become successful in the college application process.

What is a special or strange fact about you? A special fact about me is that I love to travel. I have traveled to over fifty-five countries!
