Summer is supposed to be the time to forget about school and finally have fun. For some students, the summer is the perfect time to get ahead or catch up on schoolwork. Personally, I am working on getting ahead in school by working through the summer to graduate by the fall. For whatever reason, schoolwork seems ten times harder to complete with the warm weather. Maybe it is the allure of hanging outside with friends, having fun with no responsibilities, or soaking up the warm weather with a tan. With these longer days there’s plenty of time to get your work done. Here are some tips to accomplish your schoolwork without sacrificing your entire summer.

Plan your schedule. Have an entire summer schedule to see what days you are busy or on vacation. This way you know how many days you will miss and where you can get ahead.

Plan a daily schedule. Plan which assignments you want to get done for that day and what time period it needs to be done in. Have a small and large goal for the day of the amount of work you want to finish.

Reward yourself when you get your work done. If you finish that long writing assignment, then you have ten minutes on the computer or a thirty minute swim outside. Make sure to take breaks to make sure you don't overload your mind. If the assignments are broken down into smaller parts then it seems more manageable to complete.

Have a supportive group of friends and family. Most people won't understand that you need to focus on your work. Make sure your friends realize that you need to get your work done before you can hang out with them. Get your parents and siblings to give you support to get your work done.

Get rid of all distractions during school time. This means turning your cell phone off and blocking social media sites. With most people out of school, they are easily bored and sit on the computer and on their phones. Resist temptations and get rid of them during your school hours. Those few second text messages or few minutes on social media sites do add up to work you could have been doing.

Change your scenery. Sitting at your usual desk or table can make you antsy to go outside. Open a window to give yourself some fresh air. Another great way to enjoy summer and do school is to sit outside and do your work. Sit under the tree in the shade or put on a bathing suit and get some color. Being outside makes school work seem somewhat more bearable and you can soak up that vitamin D.

Get your work done. This is almost a given tip. Get your work done in a timely manner. This means you need to stop procrastinating and focus on your work.

Get motivated. Motivation can come through rewards or just the feeling of accomplishments of getting your work done.

These tips can help make you successful in your school work this summer. It can be a challenge to seem like the only person that is during school the summer but plenty of people are doing it. Even though you will have the responsibility of school, that doesn't mean it has to ruin your summer. When you have caught up on your work or gotten ahead it will all be worth it. Remember: stay motivated, and getting your work done will lead to success! Happy summer schooling!
