How to point and shoot is all you need to know to join this club. Photography club brings people together who enjoy taking pictures and want to learn more about photography. It additionally improves skills through friendly criticism.
Students will benefit by being a part of this club. “This year, we plan on using our photos around the school as artwork and also have things to contribute to the yearbook,” said President Tyler Bickel.
It all started almost three years ago when former president Brynn Clark started the SJHHS Photography Club.
“I love photography because it’s something I take pride in. My pictures represent my own perspective of life,” said Brynn. To this day, she is still active in the club but has passed the position to Tyler Bickel.
Each month is assigned a theme. The club members then compete in a contest to see who could take the best photo or the most unique photo that pertains to the theme and is then voted on by the members at the next meeting. Not only are there contests, but also group projects. Group Projects include 2-4 people that may take portraits of each other or maybe create a photo collage.
There is no time commitment to be a part of this club. It’s a way to show what you do already know as a photographer and to express your personality through photos. Photography club wants every photographer to be comfortable with their own styles and techniques.
Meetings are are held in Mr. Norgren’s room during lunch. They are laid back, very fun, and filled with discussion. Mr. Norgren himself teaches Photography classes here on campus. It is neat to have him as their club’s advisor because he throws in some ideas and suggestions as well.
For anyone who is interested in joining the club, speak to Tyler Bickel or anyone else in the club. A suggested donation of $10 is greatly appreciated in order to purchase prizes for each photo contest winner. For more info about this club, you can visit the Facebook page “SJHHS Photography Club.”
What’s rewarding about participation is that there is “always something cool about your style,” said Tyler.
