Homecoming 2011 turned out to be the best Homecoming yet with an exciting pep rally filled with Stallion spirit, a unique and fun theme, and a memorable dance. Although the football team suffered another loss there was immense support from our students, and the upbeat halftime show got the crowd cheering.
To get students excited leading up to the game there was a spirit week the week of Homecoming. Each day was a different dress up day, with Friday being spirit day where students wore spirit wear. There were multiple lunch time activities, such as contests for freshman, sophomore, and junior prince and princesses.
The first big activity that was put on by ASB to get students fired up was the Homecoming pep rally on October 14th. This pep rally consisted of many different performances. Throughout the whole rally they actors maintain the Homecoming theme, which was the Wizard of Oz. Our MCs were characters from the movie, with the lion, scarecrow, and tinman.
The rally started off with a performance from Pep Squad, then lead into a performance from advanced dance production where they also danced to the theme. The dance was choreographed by Kristine Calder. Madeline Hunstien played the part of Dorothea. The dance is her journey to find the land of Oz where she encounters her friends, the lion, the scarecrow, and the tinman. It ends with the death of the Wicked Witch of the West.
After a couple more games the Homecoming Princes, Princesses, and Queen were announced. The freshman prince and princess were Brett Wippler and Meg Bergstrom. The sophomore winners were Connor Schmitt and Bree Kish. The juniors winners were Reece Halter and Maddy Majewski. The King was Caleb Roush, and the Queen, later announced at the game, was Olivia Vega.
The actual game started off with another performance from dance right before the game. The players fought hard, however, they suffered a loss against El Toro High School. The halftime show consisted of a dance from each class. Each class played a different role, freshmen as lollipop kids, sophomores as trees, juniors as monkeys, and seniors were the green Oz people. The Seniors dominated the field and in the end the Queen was announced.
Although we lost the game 6 to 68, Ryan Crowe did his best to lead the team. However, we definitely won in the amount of support and spirit our stands consisted of. The stands were filled with fans. It took some students over 30 minutes to get out of the parking lot. That is how packed it was.
Spirits were lifted at the dance the following night. After hours of preparing, weeks of planning, millions of pictures being taken, we finally got to the dance. With an awesome DJ, stellar lights, tons of people the 2011 Homecoming dance was a success.
ASB did a terrific job in running things smoothly and getting students pumped. Overall, Homecoming week 2011 was a success and one to remember.
