The San Juan Hills girl’s soccer team is confident enough to win many games this year with their rising potential out in the field. The 19 players on the team gave their all to be a part of this year’s team.
"Tryouts are basically a scrimmage and running a mile. You really have to give it your all," said Sierra Tolmarie, a player on the team this year. The girls soccer team is competing against Capo, Dana, Tesoro, and Laguna Hills.
"I think we have great potential this year," said Farrel Moore, this year’s coach.
"If we put effort into it, we can win every game," said Scarlett Gamino, a player on the team. Coach Moore is looking forward to playing Capo this year. Capo has beat SJHHS once and SJHHS beat Capo last year, but each player is looking forward to playing different schools.
Coach Moore prepares the girls for games by watching their opponents play. This strategy helps her figure out formations and train around that.
"We score goals. That's the only way to win the game," said Moore.
The team has won one game, tied another and lost two, so far. Although they could use more fans, the girls never get discouraged.
"We have more fans coming soon," said Gamino.
The girls enjoy playing soccer on the school’s team because they get to know one another and understand each other’s weaknesses and strengths.
"I play because it's my favorite sport in the whole wide world!" said Tolmarie.
Each girl contributes some unique quality to the team to enhance the winning power and guarantee success whether that be in the field or in being better people by understanding their limits and their team mates' as well.
"I enjoy coaching because I like being able to watch them grow and develop into better soccer players and people," said Moore.
After the girls win a game, they cool down and chant a loud cheer, "Clap, clap, Stallions!" The girl’s soccer season starts January 3 and ends around the end of February. So come support the team!
