It looks like Iron Man has the power to knock Harry Potter off his broom and pull the fangs from Edward’s mouth. The Avengers, a PG-13, sci-fi/fantasy, action/adventure film created by Walt Disney Studios Motion Pictures, came to theaters May 4, 2012 and quickly skyrocketed to the number three highest grossing film of all time. So far, it has made over one billion dollars world-wide, surpassed only by Avatar and Titanic. Director Joss Whedon’s motion picture includes actors Robert Downey Jr., (Tony Stark/Iron Man), Chris Evans, (Steve Rogers/Captain America), Mark Ruffalo, (Bruce Banner/The Hulk), Chris Hemsworth, (Thor), Scarlett Johansson, (Natasha Romanoff/BlackWidow), and Jeremy Renner, (Clint Barton/Hawkeye). The cast certainly brought the comic book characters to life.
When the dangerous Loki, the son of the all-powerful Odin and brother to Thor, gains access to the Cosmic Cube and, consequently, its ultimately unlimited power, Nick Fury, director of the S.H.I.E.L.D peacekeeping agency, calls for help. But who can one call in such a dire situation? The answer is six of the most powerful people/gods around. In order for the Avengers, this team of superheroes, to defeat Loki, Iron Man, The Incredible Hulk, Thor, Captain America, Hawkeye and Black Widow need to learn how to work together instead of against each other. This dream team has the safety and security of the globe in their hands, and they have little time to defeat the all-powerful Loki and restore peace.
The Avengers was a great action film, and was highlighted with humor and fantasy. The superheroes’ looks were better than ever; the effects in the film made them seem like they were flying through the theater. The movie’s plot was easy to follow, even if you have not seen any of the past superheroes' movies. I would recommend this movie to anyone who likes action films, comic books, superheroes, or is just in the mood to enter a parallel world for two hours.
