Tanning is known to have multiple effects on the image of many people. Some” tanners” love the private time and the relaxation of being in a tanning bed, but too often people don’t think about the consequences of this act. For example, tanning beds contain 97% of ultraviolet light and 3% of UVB. Radiation is known to be bad for the body, so why do over 30 million people in the world tan annually? The American Academy of Dermatology stated the risk of getting Melanoma increases every ten times a person goes tanning, one million people still go tanning every day! White females, between the ages of 16 and 45, have been said to account for 70 percent of the daily usage of tanning. Between the age of 16 and 45! Many problems can surface from being exposed to UVA and UVB other than skin problems. Serious eye problem can occur as well; corneal infections, conjunctivitis and retinal damage. Anyone of these can cause the loss of eyes sight over time. Tanning is often called an addiction. Many women and man can experience drug-like highs from going tanning. Some may also feel a “withdrawal” affect from not attending tanning everyday! With 38,000 people diagnosed every year with Melanoma, let’s step forward and educate ourselves about tanning and keep them out of the tanning booths!
