Ms. Bevis teaches Language Arts and Science in her cool classroom. - Kathleen McCracken
When you first walk in to Ms. Bevis’s classroom you will see stars, mobiles, and the student’s Language Arts papers hanging from the ceiling.
Team 61’s Ms. Bevis is being recognized for having a cool classroom. She teaches Language Arts and Science.
There are quotes from famous people hanging everywhere. The biggest quote on a poster is “Shoot for the moon. Even if you miss, you’ll land among the stars,” which was said by famous motivational speaker Les Brown.
Rileigh Franklin, one of Ms. Bevis’s students, says her favorite poster is “A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step.”
Because she teaches Language Arts, Ms. Bevis has the definitions of many terms covering half of one wall, and tips on how to improve in reading and writing on almost every other space in the room.
You can tell just from looking at Ms. Bevis’s classroom that her favorite color is green. Her clipboard, her scarf, her computer desk skirt, the border and words on the bulletin board, her curtains, the background to the definitions, and her big director’s chair are all green.
Her coolness has even jumped out of her room and into the hallway where you can see two-foot-wide, student-made snowflakes hanging from the ceiling. This really makes you feel like you are in a winter wonderland.
So go check out her classroom some time. Just don’t interrupt her class.

Team 62’s Mrs. Laux has one cool classroom. When you first walk in, you see piranhas hanging from the ceiling. We really hope that those aren’t real. If you look closely enough, you might also see a potentially dangerous object. A giant thumbtack lamp. Do you want to come take a look yet? Right behind a gray shelf, there is a giant crayon box. If you haven’t noticed already, Mrs. Laux loves big versions of things. In the back, there is a funky mirror, along with two funky stools. They’re funky because they’re hand painted! Apparently someone gave Mrs. Laux the mirror. On both sides of it there is a girl, with BIG hair, extremely nice for checking yours. If you ever have free time, we would suggest paying a visit to Mrs. Laux’s classroom.

Every year 7th grade Language Arts teacher Mrs. Lockwood has a different theme for her classroom. One year she had a cardinal baseball themed room. This year her room theme is the famously doomed ship Titanic. Her mom painted pictures that are hung up in the back of the classroom of the Titanic sinking. She has many props that have to do with the Titanic.
But, our favorite thing in her room has nothing to do with the Titanic. It’s a wall with pictures of hundreds of sandwiches and of Team 71's activities with the "G.L.E.E club," an educational partnership with the 1st graders at Goshen Elementary.
These are the things that make Mrs. Lockwood’s room so awesome

Mrs. Joyce’s (Team 64) science classroom rocks! It has giant beach balls hanging from the ceiling that look like the sun, Mercury, Venus, Earth, Mars, Jupiter, Saturn, Uranus, Neptune, and even though it is not a planet, Pluto. Also, there is a space shuttle that makes students feel like shooting for the moon. This is a very inspirational classroom and it helps students feel creative.
The things that are not space-themed include a reversible Medusa head. On one side there is Medusa smiling, and on the other side Medusa is trying to paralyze you.
McKenna Knobeloch, a current science student in Mrs. Joyce’s class, said, “There is also a really awesome sea fan that was once alive that I love to see every time I walk into the classroom!” Just so you know, a sea fan is a type of sea sponge and looks kind of like seaweed.
Mrs. Joyce also has a hornet’s nest, a bird’s nest, and a beehive hanging from the ceiling. The final thing in Mrs. Joyce’s classroom is a model of King Tutankhamen’s face.
This environment is a great place to learn.
