The best student musicians in the county converged on Liberty recently to create a concert in one day.

On Feb. 12, more than 200 elementary, middle school and high school students arrived at 12:30 and practiced for six hours.

After scarfing a quick, hearty meal of chicken, green beans, mashed potatoes, and a cookie, the doors opened to the public at 6:45 pm.

An excited buzz came from the audience as they anxiously waited for the concert to begin.

The elementary and 6th grade band started first.  Their songs in order were “The Prince of Denmark’s March,” “Flaming Arrow,” “Snow Globe,” and “Percius and the Sea Monster.” The director, Denny McFarland, expressed his pleasure greatly.  After a speech from the elementary director, the middle school/high school band, directed by Robert Sheldon, started with “Blaze of Glory.”  Their following songs in order were “Let Evening Come,” “Mambo Cubano,” and “Critical Mass.”  They stunned the crowd as the last note reverberated through the gym.  The ending applause seemed to last forever.

The Liberty sixth graders who went to the concert were: two flute players, Hannah Pope and Amanda Gunderson; Curtis Sellars, oboe; Lily Anne Grieve, Alyssa Young, and Emma Taylor, clarinets; Jack Grimm, alto sax; Spencer Sholl, baritone sax; Daniel Reed and Benjamin Schlueter, trumpets; Caroline Kaminsky, French horn; Andrew Holderer and Andrea Gross, trombone; Savannah Brannan, baritone;  Charlie Ferratto and Amish Mahay, tuba; and last but not least, Miles Horton and Grant Walters, percussion.

The Liberty seventh and eighth graders were: Kelsey Shelton and Katherine Schoeberle, flute; Charlee Thompson, oboe; Madison O’Leary, Mia Thompson, and Allison Blume, clarinet; Neil Chavan, alto sax; Sarah Scoggin, tenor sax; Mara Walters, Samantha Doak, and Ethan Hill, trumpet;  Matt Jones, baritone; Monica Chavan, tuba; and Jack Grieve and Robert Schorr, percussion.
