Teen drivers under the age of 17-years-old with a level 2 graduated licenses will no longer be able to drive past 10 p.m.
According to the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety in 2008, it is said that 63 percent of teenage driving deaths happened when the car was driven by a teenager. Because of this statistic, the state approved new restrictions last year. On Mar. 30, 2011 teens will be in the house a lot earlier than the previous curfew of 12 a.m. Teens with a level 2 graduated drivers license won’t be allowed to have more than one person under the age of 21 in the car at anytime. If the passenger in the car is under 21 they must be immediate family members. Also, there is an exception if you are headed to or from a school-sanctioned event or if the driver is driving to or from work. Many driving schools are very pleased with this new law being passed. Law making officials say that the law will give them a little bit more experience as far as graduating into nighttime driving. This law will also make the roads a little bit safer. "I'm actually very happy that it's happening. I've been waiting to see this happen for some time," said John Seemann of the Tri-Area Driving School. Everyone hears about teen driving accidents almost every day. However, it doesn’t hit home until people start thinking about all of them put together. This law is expected to save many lives. Although it may cram young teens’ night time schedule, it is preferred to cram their schedule than to have another accident reported. Many parents are going to make sure their young drivers are home and safe and will make sure this rule will not budge.
