Schools across the nation support breast cancer awareness week when teams such as football and cheer dress up in pink to show support for the cause.
It happens ever year, and this year that week is this week. Say goodbye to normal looking teams an say hello to pin. The football teams are usually seen in pink socks or pink gloves. Some where seen last year with pink laces and some even went as far as pink cleats.
The cheerleaders are the ones who probably have the most fun during BCA week. “I’m excited to dress up in all pink and look cute,” Mackenzie Rapp said. She said she enjoys dressing up for this “because I like to show that I can make a difference.” Rapp also said that people can expect to see her and the rest of the cheerleading teams in pink socks, pink shirts over their uniforms and even pink bows, nails and accessories. For the average teen BCA week is just a fun week of being all pink while few really truly understand what it means.
Rapp said that she knows someone that had or has died form breast cancer and that is the point of this week. Up until it hits home, breast cancer is something that people have just heard of. When breast cancer effects someone you know, it really becomes easier to relate to why all of these people go to the walks and really want to raise awareness.
There is a vary popular fundraiser done all over, it is called the Breast Cancer Three Day where everyone who wants to can sign up, pay a fee (that the get from fundraising), and walk 60 miles in three days. This generates a huge amount of money to donate to the research to find a cure for breast cancer. I think that this would be a really satisfying thing to participate in even though I do not know anyone who has had or has passed away from breast cancer. If anyone wishes to walk this year with the group they can register at WWW.the3day.org
