Tim Hwang for SMOB Embed This Article

WE ENDORSE TIM Hwang for the 32nd Student Member of the Board of Education of Montgomery County.

Hwang is currently a junior at Thomas S. Wootton High School and has a resume more impressive than most. He has had extensive experience in the countywide student government serving as vice president this year. He is also the CEO and founder of a nationwide non-profit organization, Operation Fly Inc., which serves underprivileged populations in Washington, Baltimore, New York and Chicago. On top of that, Hwang will graduate high school this June and take college classes next year.

His academic and extracurricular accomplishments aside, we are also impressed with Hwang’s progressive platform. His vision for our school system is one that emphasizes greater transparency with spending, collaborating with students when important decisions are made, and increasing communication between him and the voters. Hwang understands that we are tired of SMOBs that we never hear from – he promises to keep in contact with us all year long, not just on Election Day.

Most importantly, we trust his good judgment, which will be more important than ever as the Board makes difficult choices about the budget. He has both the brains and the heart that will help him make the right decisions in the financially challenging times that lie ahead for MCPS.
