“I’m inspired by the school and I love being here,” Ms. Mazzie said.

Ms. Mazzie knows how to get involved in school activities. She hosts the pep rallies, runs the clock for football games, attends after school functions, takes part in the plays and musicals, played in the Student vs, Teacher basketball game and has been hosting the talent show for the past 8 years.

“By hosting the talent show I can act goofy, but it’s not dorky, it’s funny,” Ms. Mazzie said.

“Mazzie is the most spirited and dedicated teacher I know, and she genuinely cares about every student she has,” Ms. Brinkman said.

Ms. Mazzie teaches Algebra A Restart, Algebra B, Foundations of College Math and coaches track and girls soccer.

“She is a tough coach, but it really does help us,” Sean Glover, junior, said.

“I like to coach because it shows me another side of the students and they are the ones choosing to be there. Seeing all my players come together as a team is really rewarding,” Ms. Mazzie said.

A strong leader is how Ms. Mazzie has been described by most. She’s not afraid to take charge and stand out.

“I went to York College in Pennsylvania, I was a bit obnoxious at times but everyone called me “Mayor” because I always said hi to everyone,” Ms. Mazzie said.

Her spirited personality comes from being able to do the things she loves to do. She loves music, traveling, soccer tournaments and motorcycles.

“I also love playing sports like soccer, volleyball, track and field and basketball. Basically, if there is a sport, I will play it,” Ms. Mazzie said.

Without Ms. Mazzie, Edgewood High School would not tick or even be the same to some people.

“She has a presence that demands respect, but she helps people feel comfortable here at Edgewood,” Mr. Friskey said.

Teaching was not Ms. Mazzie’s first career choice; she wanted to be a guidance counselor when she was in 9th grade.

“I went to college to be a counselor, but I loved being in the classroom and couldn’t give it up,” Ms. Mazzie said.

There is some bad news for everyone at Edgewood High; Ms. Mazzie is leaving the school at the end of this year.

“I always thought I would stay for a long time, but I’m about to marry the man I love and start a family. I’m really going to miss it here,” Ms. Mazzie said.

“I’ve never been unhappy with anything I’ve done for this school, I love everything about it.”
