Personally, I don’t want to hear that again. I have been saying that I want to leave Edgewood as soon as possible and never look back. Honestly, I am scared to death. What terrifies me is the realization that we will no longer have the schedule set for us Monday through Friday, and we won’t see the familiar faces in the hallway, even if we don’t want to see them. The talk of being completely ready to go to college and move into my future is a defense mechanism.
We can sketch out our plans, but it’s only a rough draft. We can only write our story as we live through each day. Our guides through life, be they parents, teachers or older siblings, can only give guidelines and advice. We do not know what will come our way and that just stresses me out.
Whether you are going to college, joining the military or going right into the workforce, you need to recognize the area in which you excel. High school was full of a bunch of busy work, boring classes and popularity contests. Edgewood is full of diversity and talent, and our senior class holds a lot of potential. Real life is not just about being good at math or being popular like you had to be in high school. It is about going after your own talent and making your own definition of success.
Everyone telling you how to succeed, myself included, does not make it easy and it does not guarantee that you will succeed.
You have to be true to yourself and accomplish your own goals through your own motivation. Even though I want to leave high school, it will still be difficult to grasp the fact that I’m not coming back next year. We all have some sort of fear of leaving high school, but I have faith that every senior who will be crossing the stage with me May 31st will find their own success.
Congratulations and best of luck Class of 2007!
