Have you ever wondered who’s behind all the fun activities at your school? Well if you’re in any afterschool program you should give thanks to your wonderful coordinator who made it all possible. Mrs. Eichelberger is the afterschool coordinator for Roosevelt Senior High School.
The afterschool program exists to help millions of children of all ages to learn while having fun. It makes the environment a safe place. The purpose of having the afterschool program is to keep the attention and the interest of the students. The program is to build and create different skills and allow children to experience different ideas and things. Here at Roosevelt, the afterschool program definitely does all of these things.
Mrs. Eichelberger said that she loves working with the children at Roosevelt and loves being the school’s afterschool coordinator. Mrs. Eichelberger is the mother of 3 kids. Unsurprisingly, she loves working with our students.
In our interview, Mrs. Eichelberger talked about all the different activities in the program. She said, “we have the band, the athletics program, the dancers, the majorettes. We have clubs like the Science Club, the Peace Club and the Men of Strength Club.” Students have many options after school.
According to Mrs. Eichelberger, the afterschool program is great because “it gives [students] an outlet for something productive to do after school,” instead of wasting time on the streets.
She also believes that students can learn new things by participating. She said, “it allows students to learn new skills and new interests. Like people who are in the band can learn how to play a new instrument.”
Mrs. Eichelberger truly likes being the afterschool coordinator. In fact, she said, “being the afterschool coordinator gives me a lot of pleasure. I get to interact with the students and I get to mess with the students as well.”
Mrs. Eichelberger actually has a lot of experience as a teacher, but she likes the change of not being the classroom teacher. She said, “after being a teacher for 25 years I’m kind of happy to not have to grade student papers and hold students accountable academically.”
She thinks that, as the after school coordinator, she can reach out to students in another way. She said, “I get to pick at them in a less formal fashion about how they dress or wear hats in the building or their behavior or their language and that allows me to get through to them in a way that might not get through as a classroom teacher.”
Mrs. Eichelberger is a pleasure to have at Roosevelt. She helps many children stay off the streets and stay in school where they can be productive and learn. We thank her for her service to the school.
