The following photo essay depicts scenes from Oakland Tech over a three-day period from March 20 to March 22, 2006. Scribe photographers took photos of students exercising in physical education class, eating breakfast and lunch at the school cafeteria, and walking to Tech’s “unofficial” lunchroom, the Burger King on Broadway across the street from the school. By focusing on these scenes of diet, exercise and nutrition, each photograph should raise awareness of the health problems that students have, and where there is room for improvement in school conditions. This photo essay, plus other stories in the April issue, are the culmination of our year-long study of diet, nutrition and exercise, sponsored by the Public Media Group.
