78 out of 100 male students that attend Morton East love to play football Senior Dario Covarrubias has been playing football for 2 years, freshman and senior year.“Yeah I enjoy football and have been playing it for a while, but sometimes it takes up a lot of my time,” Dario said.Not many football players know what college they want to play for, if they wish to play after high school.“When I graduate high school I want to play for University of Illinois,” he said.But, some think football may be tough on the boys.“I love football no matter how tough it is on me, I’m so dedicated to achieve my goal which is to attend University of Illinois,” he said. Junior Carlos Guerra has been playing football for 10 years.“I’ve been playing since I was in 2nd grade,” Carlos said.He also plays quarterback for Morton’s JV team.“I like being quarterback because I feel like I’m the leader of the team,” he said.Not every guy really knows what it takes to play football and what skills you need in order to play.“In order to play football, you need strength, good vision, and good communication,” Carlos said. Sophomore John Broderick just started playing football this year as a defense tackle.“I love this position because I can take my anger out when I tackle other players but, the hard part is getting to my right spots,” John said.Some Morton football players are pleased with the position they play but if they could have the opportunity to play another position, some say they would.“If I could change my position, it would be center because they always have the ball,” John said.Every football player dreams of playing for a professional team because they wish to make a career out of it, and become someone famous.(like Walter Payton)“My dream is to play for the Chicago Bears because I love them and they are from my hometown,” he said. Senior Esteban Gonzales has played football for 4 years.“Well I played for 3 years straight, stopped for 2, then played again for my senior year,” he said.Some football players don’t mind that football takes up most of their personal time.“To me football does take up most of my time but it’s my main priority,” Esteban said.Football players don’t like the fact that the season only lasts for a few months.“I love everything about football but what I don’t like is that it only lasts a certain season,” he said. Although everyone loves winning, losing is sometimes part of the game.“I wouldn’t call it losing, it’s learning from our mistakes,” Dario Covarrubias said.Overall, football players have seen most of their improvements during practices after a loss. “There’s always more focus and a lot of leadership during practices,” Carlos Guerra said.Not only does it take to be focused and have leadership but also maturity.
