Sophomore Damaris Gonzalez became a bit of a celebrity in Cicero upon winning her Dream Sweet 16 package. - Joel Barajas
Sophomore Damaris Gonzalez recently won her Sweet Sixteen party, onApril 1st, by entering a contest called La Fiesta De Tus Suenos. She won the party of her dreams, which consisted of her quinceneara dress, church, limousine, reception, photo & video, cake, catering, DJ,Angel's Quinceanera as her choreographer, gift certificates, $120 worth of Mary Kay products, and an Android tablet. She heard about this contest from one of her friends, who won the year before."To win I had to accumulate an outrageous amount of votes, which were emails," Damaris said. 2,232 people voted for Damaris by going to the Teleguia website, clicking on her name, and submitting their email to vote. Many of the votes came from Morton East students. "Believe it or not, it's still very stressing to organize the party. I'm very excited to see what the ending result will be," Damaris said. Even with a lot of the details taken care of, Damaris still doesn't have the guest list finalized. Although Damaris is given nearly everything for her party, some things are still unclear. Everyone knows that a party is more fun when your friends are there by your side to enjoy it with you, but she still needs to figure out how many to invite. "As of right now, I have 190 [guests], and they're all family," Damaris said. When she was announced the winner, she got to meet David Miranda, a Spanish radio station host. "For girls who didn't have parties, this is a great contest to enter, I mean, they're giving you almost everything for your party," Damaris said. "Girls should take advantage of the opportunity given, there's nothing to be lost. I recommend this contest, not only because it makes dreams come true, but because it gives everyone a fair chance to win. Trust me girls, it's worth it!"
