The Scary Guy with exchange student Unda Karele - Mallet Staff
The
Scary Guy is a motivational speaker set out to change the world by
tackling hate, violence, prejudice, bullying, and negative mindsets.
Scary
stands six foot tall with tattoos that encompass 85% of his entire
body. “I didn’t get my first tattoo until I was about thirty. The
only one I did myself was a blue heart with a lightning bolt through
it on my knee in remembrance of my mom,” said Scary. The tattoos
are a testament to his life journeys.
As
a child, Scary grew up with an undiagnosed reading disorder. After
graduating high school, he became a voice major at Macalestor College
in St. Paul, Minnesota. He was a baby portrait photographer, computer
salesman, and tattoo shop owner. Scary now does a variety of things.
Along with his motivational speaking he is an artist, singer,
philosopher, comedian, entertainer, and composes classical music.
Scary
legally changed his name to “The Scary Guy” in 1998 in response
to a newspaper editorial about appearances. He eventually sold his
tattoo shops and decided to hit the road. Scary was set out to change
the world one individual at a time. He continues to travel the world
to spread his message full of awareness, understanding, acceptance,
love, and peace.
“We
can all experience our own kind of world peace if we want to,” said
Scary.
Part
of Scary’s philosophies include being aware and understanding the
flow of negative energy in the form of words and actions. He strives
for others to understand the meaning and power behind their words,
actions, and their choices.
“We
all impact each other, so why would we choose to do so negatively?”
Scary asked rhetorically to a large group of students.
The
Scary Guy made an impact at Proctor High School on April 5th,
2011. Many students have since become friends with him through the
social network site Facebook. His wall overflows with messages from
students and adults across the world with words of thanks and
kindness.
“Do
I like my job? I don’t quit doing what I do once I leave here. I
keep doing my ‘job’. My job is my life. I love my life,” said
Scary.
