Every year a group of the choir students go on a tour. This year, the choir decided to go to New York City. Unfortunately, not everyone could afford to attend, but most of the students from Advanced Women’s Choir and Concert Choir went on the trip over Spring Break.
Despite having to be at the school at 4:00 a.m., most students were eager to get on the plane and go. “I’m so excited!” exclaimed senior Tiffany Bock as she waited for the plane to take off.  Many students had trouble sleeping at all the night before, which turned out to be a problem, because it was fairly difficult to fall asleep on the plane. After some flight delays they finally made it to New York.
The group ate dinner at the Stardust Diner, which was amazing because the waiters sang and danced; it was dinner and a show. After dinner, they went on a walk through Times Square. When people say it’s the city that never sleeps, they really mean it. There were bright lights everywhere. Shops, billboards, and just about every building was covered in lights.
Over the next few days the choirs went to some schools in New York and performed for them. They had the opportunity to be directed by Dr. Craig, the Manhattan School of Music’s choir director. They also attended a festival with Union High School’s choirs at the Church of the Heavenly Rest.
When they weren’t singing, students got to experience New York City attractions. They saw the Lion King and Phantom of the Opera on Broadway, and attended a Yankees game at the new stadium. They also visited Central Park, the Empire State Building, the Statue of Liberty, and Ground Zero.
They saw a lot of New York in only six days, but as it came to a close most of them were ready to go home. Mr. Karn summed it up simply, “We want to go back, but minus the plane ride there”.
