As Juan Diego Catholic High School's commencement ceremony on May 28th draws near, seniors are preparing for graduation parties that will celebrate all of their accomplishments throughout their high school years. But they're getting creative with their celebration plans.
“My friends Annabah, Monique, and I are sharing a party,” says senior Sabrina Walker. “It will be an open house, with food served the whole time and lots of family and friends.”
They are not the only ones having a group party. Seniors Courtney Leonard, Maranda Lebrecht, Vicki Shimkus, Taylor Muzatko, Kelsey McGarry, Jackie Moynihan, Natalie Baczuk, and Brooke Sorenson are all hosting their party together. They rented Lone Peak Pavilion for the festivities, and will have Texas Roadhouse as a caterer. In addition, they will have a slideshow with photos of each of them throughout the years.
Other students are having smaller, more family-oriented parties. Soon-to-be graduate Jimmy Monsoor says his party is mainly “for family and super close family friends.”
Since there are so many parties on the weekend of graduation, senior Samantha Schumm is planning on having a “going away party” in August. “Everyone is so busy right now,” she says. “I thought it would be easier to get everyone together before I go to college.”
In addition to the individual parties, the Juan Diego Booster Club is hosting a “Grad Night” for all seniors on the night of graduation. The party will run from about 10 p.m. to 3 a.m., and it will be held at the Sports Mall on 700 East in Sandy. Offerings include food all night, swimming, basketball, and a mechanical bull. JD student government advisor Lynelle Williams says that “Grad Night” is attended by 95% of the senior class. Many of those who do not attend are out of town.
No matter what kind of party they are having, one thing is for sure: the seniors all have a reason to celebrate after commencement exercises are complete.
