Muy interesante is one way to describe the soccer game that was played on Monday, October 18, 5:00 PM, between the old folks (faculty members) and the athletes (Judah Soccer team). Everyone was amused by the game, especially the spectators. The soccer players took advantage of the faculty members not having the energy any more to keep on running. The soccer players had been practicing all season long, and so they had no problem scoring, so the players considered the game a good warm up. The players tried to go easy on the teachers because none of them wanted to cause any major injuries to the teachers’ team.
Teachers have experience with giving lectures, homework, and detentions, but do they have the same experience on the soccer field?!
This season, the students played against many teams, but this time they took on their greatest competition yet, the faculty members. Everyone was in shock when they looked at the score board at the end of the first half (even the faculty members), which read (3-1) with the teachers in the lead. With the Varsity players in during the second half, the students easily regained their ground. Mr. Hays, described as the “wall” by the rest of the faculty, is credited for eliminating many chances the students had to score, and that was the time Mr. Hays demonstrated his supernatural powers as keeper for the faculty’s team. Mr. Mead commented that he really enjoyed the first half, was not crazy about the second half, but was thankful for the faculty and student enthusiasm. The part Mr. Mead absolutely admired in the game was being able to interact with the students outside of school.
In the second half, the students put all they had into the game and did not pull back an inch. The students dominated the second half so much so that keeper, Josh Showalter, was able to take a breather. That’s enough proof that the students were offensively dominating the ball in the second half.
Something astonishing happened that the students weren’t in any way expecting; their coach’s assistant (Jason Peterson), was playing against the students! So they were left without a coach, but even with Jason on the other team, and the students left without a coach, the players come out on top with a score of 6-4.
To conclude, the game was quite a spectacle to watch. It’s not everyday you see elderly people running around kicking the ball and athletes taking them down.
