The technology of today is truly astounding and its uses are innumerable. They can be used for calculations, recording memories, and even for leisure through games and videos. Technology is for fun and entertainment, not school. Personal technology should stay away from school and left at home. Consequences will occur if technology is allowed on school premises.
First of all, not everybody in the school can afford their own iPad or Kindle. An iPad can cost up to $300 and could place burdens on low-income families. The school won’t provide such luxuries to their students because of the increasing budget cuts. It wouldn’t be fair to others if half the class had their own tablet, and the other half is left with nothing.
In addition, those $300 and up technologies could be stolen. What would you tell your parents if your iPad was stolen? Anybody in the school could just grab a tablet out of someone’s backpack and get away with it. Nobody could be held responsible for the theft and school officials can’t search everybody in the school, so it’s a good guess that it’s missing forever.
A huge reason why people buy an iPad is to download the fun, free games. Students might get distracted as they play their virtual games. Teachers will get annoyed after finding their students playing Angry Birds instead of listening to important lectures. Students might also put cheat sheets into their portable notes. This school also doesn’t offer wireless internet, so how would the few educational apps open?
There are countless problems when dealing with tablets. What happens if you forget it at home? What happens if the battery dies? All you could do is make more excuses to cover up laziness. Just go read a real book instead of relying on electronics.
