The harsh trill of your morning alarm clock interrupts your sound sleep. You know what lies ahead; school. At school you sit for hours while the instructors drone on and on. Some of the lessons are so slow while the others move too fast. Then you go home and start your homework right away because you know it will take the whole night to do. There’s no time for extracurricular activities or anything entertaining.

This is the scenario for most students that go to a traditional school. They spend a whole seven hours at school and then go home, not fully understanding the day’s lesson. As a result, they have to take their own time after school attempting to relearn the subjects. This wouldn’t be a problem with online schooling. Those who sit behind a computer instead of behind a desk will be able to work at their own pace. That means if the student is more advanced than others, he or she could move through lessons quicker and therefore, learn more. If the student needs more help on a subject, time is endless. He or she could slow down when needed.  These students would also have the advantage of working in a peaceful setting, undisturbed by other students. After all, teachers lose minutes every day out of their instructional time to deal with misbehaving students.  This may total up to days lost by the end of the school year.

At a traditional school, teachers have their own schedule so they can’t wait for each and every student to fully grasp the concepts of whatever lesson is being taught that day.  So while some students may understand everything, there will still be a handful of students who don’t, making the following lessons just as difficult. Then when those students try to complete their homework later on, they still won’t get it and waste hours after school in a state of frustration. This can lead to stress, anxiety and may even tempt students to copy other students’ work.

Students may be reluctant to even consider online schooling because of how it might affect their social life. However, they need to remember that they go to school for an education and not to just to be a social butterfly. With cell phones and internet, it’s not like they’ll lose contact with their friends anyway. As for extracurricular activities, most online providers offer the same sports and clubs that public schools have. They even arrange field trips for the students and hold face to face study sessions. They’ll also have a teacher monitoring the entire educational process so extra help could be given if needed. Best of all, there is no homework.
