Advertising

Troy Faulkner, a Curtis High School graduate, class of  2008, has made it to the Olympic trials for  the 2012 Olympics in London.  Faulkner is competing in the  200 meters, where he’s ranked eighth in the US and 18th in the world, and the 400 meter event, ranked 12th in the US and 19th in the world. As a student at Curtis he impressed his track coaches. Coach Pierce of the boys

track team said, “Troy told me that he was the fastest kid in the state of New York,  and he was right. At the end of the year he ranked number one in the 200 and 400 meter events in all of New

York. Troy is known for being self motivated and when he puts his mind on something, he normally achieves it.”

Faulkner, is the first Curtis student to make it to the Olympic trials for track since Abel Kiviat who competed  in the 1912 Olympics 100 years ago. Mr. Banks, also a coach for the boys track team, said, “It is a big honor to even make it to the Olympic trials.” According to Coach Pierce, Troy didn’t really think he would make it to the trials and that he is very excited for the opportunity. In July of this year Faulkner will learn if he has officially made it to the Olympics. In order to make it to the London 2012 Olympics, Troy would have to be ranked in the top three  in the 200 meter event or in the top six for the 400 meter event. The Olympic Trials will take place in Hayword Field at the University of Oregon, from June 29th to July 1st.
