Are any of them the winners? - Cody Karst

Everyone knows how unhealthy fast food is for you. This is why fast food
restaurants try to advertise their apple slices/dippers, yogurt, baked
chips, etc. However, who really goes to a fast food restaurant for their
life-changing apple dippers or their mind-blowing yogurt? Very few
people; most people go to these places because they're quick easy food
that tastes good.
I surveyed 50 random high school students from
Underwood and asked them what their favorite restaurant is between Burger King, McDonalds, Taco Bell, Arby's
and Wendy's. Burger King won with 14 of the votes, Arby's placed 2nd
with 12 votes, McDonalds placed 3rd with 11 votes, then came Taco Bell
with 9 votes, and Wendy's finished with a slim 4 votes. I did some
researching on all of these restaurants' number one value meal with a
Coke or Pepsi (this is often the thing that each restaurants sells the
most) to look up the calories, grams of fat and carbs on all of the
restaurant websites. According to Bk.com a Whopper Meal has 1,200
calories, 55 grams of fat, and 151 carbs. Mcdonalds.com said that a Big
Mac Meal has 1,130 calories, 48 grams of fat and 151 carbs. Tacobell.com
said that Taco Bell's Beefy Five Layer Burrito Meal w/nachos has 1,120
calories, 42 grams of fat, and 150 carbs. Arbys.com said that Arby's
Roast Beef Classic Meal has 990 calories, 38 grams of fat, and 142 carbs.
Wendys.com said that Wendy's Dave's Hot and Juicy 1/4 Meal has 1070
calories, 48 grams of fat, and 127 carbs. The average calorie intake per
day should be somewhere around 2,000(this also varies on many things).
When you have one meal that is already in the 1,000s for calories that
can easily make you go over the 2,000 you should get a day. Then on top
of that some of these meals have more then 50 grams of fat in them. Plus
that ketchup that you dip your fries in, or that cheese that you put on
your nachos adds up to even more calories, fat and carbs. Fast food may
be convenient and quick, but if you eat it too much of it you will find
yourself overweight and unhealthy.
So, instead of going out to a Burger
King or a McDonalds whenever you want a cheeseburger consider making it
at home, it will be ALOT healthier.
