Spring is on its way! - Zoey Mears

Spring fever, all students experience it. The weather improves, and the excitement for summer’s arrival begins. With the warm weather, temptations to go outside and do desirable spring- time activities increase. Many a times, these temptations cause a lack of time spent on homework. In turn, this can cause lowering or even failing grades in classes. While the thought of summer being just around the corner creeps its way into the minds of students, the excitement and lack of care towards school work also increases.
In an article called “Keeping Kids Motivated,” Susan Carney says “When the weather starts to turn warm, many students take that as a signal that the school year is essentially “over” and their vacation has started.” Spring fever causes restlessness and itching for longer days and warmer temperatures. Looking out the window and seeing sunshine and green grass can make a student eager to go outside and do things other than home work. Nice weather can also make students feel as if summer is here, as stated in the previous article mentioned, and that their vacation has started. Another article by Kristin LeMarbe says, “When the restlessness and inability to concentrate translates into suffering grades and insomnia, spring fever takes on a real scientific diagnosis: seasonal affective disorder.” This latent depression may be activated when fall arrives and leaves begin to fall. Symptoms include sleeping constantly and social withdrawal. During the springtime, the symptoms may include sleep deprivation and lack of concentration on school work.
No one is immune to spring fever. Everyone gets it at some point, wanting to be outside enjoying the nice weather after the long winter that has just passed. Grades slip because of this and sleep patterns worsen. It can be bad for physical and mental health. Do you have spring fever?
