Jake Miller, this issue’s Tennis Athlete of the Month, practices to his full potential. This six-foot-four-inch athlete towers above the competition.
“He works really hard. And his attitude is really good. As a coach, I could not ask for more than that,” said tennis coach Ernest Valdez.
Miller believes that trying his hardest in practice is one way to become a better athlete. He won second place at the Madisonville Invitational tournament with doubles partner Preston Jimenez.
“Jake’s height works well for our team. And it is a huge advantage for us. He has a good serve and is the reason we win,” said Jimenez.
Miller enjoys playing tennis with the support of his doubles partner.
“Preston compliments my game style very well,” said Miller.
Serving is one part of the game that Miller enjoys the most. And he finds that tennis is an escape from the stresses of day-to-day life.
“Tennis is fun. And it is a great way to relieve stress,” said Miller.
Miller hopes to continue to improve and show off his tennis skills at the district meet on March 31.
