There are many things that appear strange to us but have a
perfectly understandable explanation. Here are ten facts and the reason behind
it.
1.
Hippo
Milk is pink
Hipposudoric acid is a red pigment found in the skin secretions of the hippopotamus causing their
milk to come out pink. Due to its color, it was often thought of as blood.
2.
Turtles
can breath through their rear
Only some turtles have adapted to
the ability of breathing through their rear. They may not inhale through their
rear, but they are able to exhale while submerged.
3.
Lobsters
have blue blood
The copper in their blood gives
their blood a bluish tint. It is much like how iron in our blood causes our
blood to be red.
4.
You
can’t hum while holding your nose
The vocal cords can't be activated unless there is air passing through
them, much like a reed. If you are humming, your air is being exhaled through
your nose. If you plug your nose, the air stops, and so does the vibration of
the vocal cords.
5.
The
dot over the letter 'i' is called a tittle.

The
bible is the most shoplifted book in the world
Due to it being the most translated book in the world, it can be seen in
stores everywhere, causing it to be the most sold book and the most shoplifted.
7.
Tipping
at a restaurant in Iceland is considered an insult
The price of food in Iceland already includes service, by giving more money
they take it as an insult because it looks like you thought they were wrong.
8.
The
cigarette lighter was invented before the match
The match was created in 1827 when a chemist found that certain chemicals
on the end of a stick would burn with friction, but was not sold as a product
until 1910. The lighter was produced in 1887.
9.
The
Oscars given out during World War II were made of plaster.
During this time period, medal was
scares and other elements were either expensive or taken. So they choose
plaster.
10.
Most
people who read the word 'yawning' will yawn
