After a year of waiting, Hilary Duff’s sequel to her New York Times’ bestseller, Elixir, has finally been released, and it does not disappoint. Devoted answers all of the questions readers were left with at the end of Elixir.
In an interview with MTV, Duff says, “Devoted picks up basically where Elixir left off, and Clea has a lot of big questions to answer and decisions to make. Clearly Sage and her got separated, and it didn’t end ideally for them, so she is having a hard time."
Within the book, Clea is determined to find Sage now, but there are already a few problems in her way:
Problem one: Clea has cut her ties with Ben now, because she is afraid of what might happen with Ben in her life, not to mention she is still mad at Ben for what he did in Japan. Yet when she decides that she needs Ben’s intelligence and knowledge about the Elixir, she is not quite sure that Ben will be willing to lend her a hand after all she has done to him.
Problem two: Clea has had a few mysterious run-ins with a family of four unusual people. They have the ability to appear out of thin air, and they can also show Clea what is happening to Sage, no matter how far apart they are. Three of the people seem determined to tear Sage and her apart in order to “keep her safe,” whereas one of them, the youngest, seems to want to help Clea find Sage. The question is, why are these people coming to her, and what connection do they have to Sage and the Elixir?
Problem three: It seems Sage, wherever he is trapped, is beginning to fall for someone else, and there does not seem to be any way Clea can intervene.
Problem four: Clea only has a short amount of time to find and save Sage before he is destroyed forever.
Duff’s next novel in the series is definitely one that will be flying off the shelves. The interview with MTV continues with Duff saying, "There is going to be one more. I do not think it will be as long. It will be a wrap up, kind of where they are now and what exactly happened to the Elixir, whose hands it is in, what ends up happening with Sage. I am going to start writing soon. It will probably be very emotional for my state. I think it will come out a little sooner because it will be easier and quicker."
The title of the book and its release date have not yet been revealed, but anyone who reads Elixir and Devoted will be dying to read the final book.
