What would bring a man to bite another man’s face off? Police blame recent attacks on a drug called bath salts. Others are pointing to zombies.

To many, the issue of zombies is a joke but others take it seriously and believe there could be an actual zombie apocalypse.

“Well, there’s a couple of different types of zombies and they’re pretty cool, not that I would want to walk around with any of them. Although if the zombie apocalypse came I would be prepared for it,” Astro-Zombies comic shop employee Max Maclennan said. Atro-Zombies is a comic book store in the Nob Hill area of Albuquerque.

Zombies may be started by brain parasites known as Toxoplasmosa Gondii. The parasite may be carried in rats who are then eaten by cats and transferred into humans and, according to “5 scientific reasons a zombie apocalypse could actually happen” on cracked.com, the parasite manipulates the rat into getting itself eaten.

In Louisiana, an alleged zombie bit off a chunk of a neighbor’s cheek. Police say the attackers were under the influence of a new drug called bath salts. Some, however, believe recent attacks are the work of zombies. Current news stories show a man chewed the face of a homeless man in Miami. The victim, Todd Credeur, when found by police, was covered in blood. Police did not blame attacks on zombies but rather suspect the assailants were under the influence of bath salts.

Despite police suspicions of drug use, zombie web sites are still speculating about a coming zombie apocalypse. According to the Zombie Research Society (ZRS), zombies have been talked about on earth since the 1800’s.

Zombie findings in New Mexico started in 1997 when they found a large amount of human remains from about 13 AD in Chaco Canyon. According to the ZRS the research showed the bodies died from dismemberment and cannibalism, though they could not prove it was the undead.

There are preparations concerned citizens need for the zombie apocalypse, such as weapons, good ways of surviving is if people stay in big groups and have some armor. Zombie combatants should make sure they have a lot of room to move around. To stay alive you want to gather canned and dry foods, according to “How to Survive a Zombie Attack” at kuro5hin.com.
