Regret, suspense, love, betrayal. Ernest Hemmingway has done it again, releasing one KILLER story to rattle your television set!
Welcome to the world of Film Noir- a world of Hollywood crime drama. This 1946 adaptation of a story by Ernest Hemmingway grasps the very essence of the mystery and suspense of a movie of this genre. Burt Lancaster (Pete Lund/Ole "Swede" Andreson), and Ava Gardener (Kitty Collins), play two classic characters recreatedto this day for their depth and intricate personalities, on a dark adventure.
The opening scene depict Max and Al, two hit men, killing Ole Swede (Burt Lancaster). From that point, the plot is built off offlash-back memories of how and why Ole Swede was murdered. It is a game of money,as most film noirs are. However, Kitty Collins (Ava Gardner) takes on the roleof the turn-coat, jumping back and forth from friend to foe.
The screenwriting is loaded with character-defining dialogue. This is screenwriter Anthony Veller’s artform perfected.
“Maybe because I hate him. I'm poison, Swede, to myself and everybody around me! I'd be afraid to go with anyone I love for the harm I do to them!” Kitty Collins (Ava Gardner) said.
This is the kind of movie that will bring you in, tie you down, and let youpray for a happy ending. It’s a classic to be remembered, as many of theclassics are. Most of the story lines of films today are adaptations of films from the past. This is pure vintage, the root of roots.
Most story lines of films today are adaptations of films from the past. The classics are never too old to be cool. Black and white, with a hint of redfor the blood that was shed, if you are up for a night of suspense, mystery, and romantic betrayal, check out The Killers.
