On Tuesday Oct. 2, Kennedy Girls Varsity Tennis challenged Pacifica in a tough loss for the team. The game, promptly starting at 3:15 p.m., lasted until around 5:30 p.m., and even though it was a tough blow, the girls held their heads high with a positive stance on the overall turn out of the season.
This was the first time Kennedy played Pacifica this year. Pacifica was a strong team, but Kennedy came out stronger. Even with the loss, they are ready to take on the next school. Teammates senior Meha Marate and senior Alicia Conover played exceptionally well in a doubles match, splitting the court in half as they shared returning hits from the other side. After each game, they came together for a high five, displaying the sportsmanship irish athletes share on campus.
Sophomore Paris Lee’s singles match was full of energy and determination, as she raced up and down the court, returning each hit with a harder smack right over the net.
Girls Tennis has eight returning players and three new from Junior Varsity. They are a group of dedicated and high-spirited individuals looking forward to a progressive season.
“The team is getting better and we have jelled as a unit,” Coach Sara Mesa said.
Mesa, the Kennedy Girls Softball coach, is a first time coach for Girls Tennis here at Kennedy. She is doing a great job at keeping the team on their toes, ready to play their hearts out each match.
“The season is great and the team is full of memorable people that will stay in my heart for the rest of my life,” senior Natalie Escudero said.
A tough loss will not keep the team. Come out and support the girls at their next game and watch as they take on their opponents with a smile and a wave.
