If students can walk over to the Seminary building, why can't they walk over to have pizza? - Alissia
Do LDS student get special privileges with the off campus rules? You’d probably think they do considering they get to walk off campus ever day to go and practice their religion during the school day. The answer is no, any student can have the same rights the seminary students do, if your parents want you to have time out of your school day to practice your religion, you may have a “religious release” during any class period if your parents say that it’s okay.
Religious Release has the same result as home release, you don’t get a credit for it, and you can only have this privilege if you are on track to graduate. Most LDS students are forced to take zero hour because seminary takes away from their classes.
The question that was brought up was “Garbanzos is the same distance as the seminary building, why can’t students go over there for lunch, if LDS students can cross the street for seminary?”
The difference between seminary and Garbanzos is that parents release their child to attend the Seminary service, and it is considered a class, they do not receive attendance or a credit for this religious practice.
Then Garbanzos, on the other hand, is just a luxury that we “closed campus” students are not allowed to be a part of. The reason for this being the fact that pizza takes a very long time to make, and if campus is open just to Garbanzos, a lot of students will be over there and no one will know how long it would take to make that many pizzas. Another speed bump in the road to making Garbanzos eligible for Vallivue students to enjoy it the safety precautions is that we would need another cross walk closer to the Garbanzos entrance.
