Chances are, you’ve heard some kind of derogatory joke about a musician. New idols are rising up all the time and almost always, controversy follows. Arguments are being sparked all the time, either sides using all (or none) of their wits against each other. Battle of the bands has never involved less music.

Nickelback rose to fame with their All the Right Reasons album that took the alternative rock world by storm. For about five “Hollywood” minutes, the group was on top of the world. After the wave of “new music” wore off, some of us started to realize something. (Assuming we hadn’t already.) For whatever reason, Nickelback soon became the butt of everyone’s jokes. Even after so many years and another album, they have yet to redeem themselves for a lot of music fans.

Lady Gaga took her claim to fame more recently by shocking the world with a wide variety of weirdness. Many denounce her actual musical talent while others idolize her for what they believe is breaking down the barriers of normality in modern media. From showing up to award shows in bacon dresses and eggs to producing music that people just can’t help but listen to, Lady Gaga surely has made waves in the media world.

When asked, we’ve noticed a lot of people don’t seem to understand the hate and controversy. People from just about any corner of the internet often share a unified snicker whenever someone brings up liking Nickelback. The common reason for distaste of the rockers is not them personally, but the fans. Nickelback is known for attracting fans of rowdy, brash nature which brings a lot of people to turn their noses up to the band in general. Their stereotypical “rockstar” lyric content is also a reason for many jokes. They’ve been called a one-trick pony for being incapable of producing anything other than what they already have, though many would also claim the band has disproven that.

Gaga’s hater crowd comes with a little more complex reasoning than basic teasing. While some people are simply off put by her odd fashion tastes, others feel the issue runs a little more personally. Many of the socially out casted feel as though she draws attention to something they have been trying to speak out for without actually accomplishing anything. Debates over the things that she does for people not often in the public eye are often quite heated and don’t usually end with anything intelligible.
