What was your favorite part of homecoming?

Teacher Response:

Mrs. Murphy, “My favorite part of homecoming at Roosevelt High School was the increased school spirit and anticipation of the ‘Big’ game.”

Mr. Uranich, “That greatest aspect of Homecoming was the football game. This particular HC we played and beat our archrivals, which earned for us a conference championship. We did it in the final seconds over a team that was undefeated and un-scored upon in league. Truly, it was the greatest football game I was ever a part of.”

Mr. Hamilton, “The thing I remember most about homecoming at my high school was definitely the Buff Puff games. That was the one event the school was all about. Lots of fun, competitive juices, and good memories.”

Mrs. Lancaster, “The bonfire night was always fun. That was always my favorite. We would start at the school and go down the town in all of our black and orange. Then we would do this big loop back to the school and go into a field next to the stadium and have a huge tail-gate party/bonfire. The community was invited, so we had the fire chief there to make sure that the bonfire was running properly. There was a lot of chanting that we were going to beat the other team, it was serious rivalry.”

Mr. Bear, “Winning the football game. I was the starting quarterback but got to play defense. (Who was the opponent?? That, I can’t remember...but...we were undefeated).”

Mrs. Krause, “My favorite part of homecoming was the Serpentine. On the Friday of homecoming week, the day of the football game, the last hour of the school day was an all-school parade through the town of Snohomish. It was a sea of red, black, and white. The football team rode on the fire trucks, homecoming royalty in Mustang convertibles, other fall sports and cheerleaders in the backs of brand new trucks from the local dealership. The marching band played, the senior class led the Serpentine, followed by the royalty, marching band and fall sports, then the junior class, sophomore class, and the freshmen class. People lined the streets to watch and sing the fight song, elementary school students sat along the sidewalk in front of their school.”

Student Responses:

Jazzy Andrus (10), “Um, I’d probably have to say the homecoming game, because I got to see my brother play on the field, my sister cheering, and I got to play with the band.”

Lindsey Wilson(11), “My favorite part of homecoming week was definitely Buff Puff. The competition was so intense!”

Alex Schimetz (11), “My favorite thing about homecoming was being able to have fun and compete with the other classes.”

John Paul Nuez (12), “The best part of the dance was the cookies. They were swag.”

Caylie Cook (12), “My favorite part would have to be winning Buff Puff and flag football along with homecoming in general.”

Kristohper Charles Lee Wannquist (12), “The Buff Puff , and Aaron Holloway! Showing his school spirit by getting hyphy [hyperactive] at every game.”

Ian Price(9), “My favorite part of homecoming week was going to the dance and dancing...to music.”
