Losing weight, improving grades, stopping the use of foul language—these are all some of the New Year’s resolutions people will set for 2012.

Most resolutions have good intentions and primarily focus on self-improvement of the individual. By making a resolution people hope to overcome something they see as a flaw in themselves that they would like to eliminate entirely from their lives or help others around them.

When I spoke to PAHS students about their New Year’s resolutions for 2012 I discovered some interesting resolutions—some of which you might want to consider—I know I certainly will.

According to Paxton Rodocker (12) her resolution for 2012 is, “to learn more about myself when I go off to college.”

When I spoke to Dani Chamberlain (12) her resolution for 2012 was, “to become more independent and get over my anxiety!”

However, Hailey Hoover (11) says, “she would like to get her grades up and get in shape!”

Lexie Pankowski (11) would like to spend more time with friends she isn’t close with and make new friends along the way. Taylor Rutz (11) said she is trying to place the happiness of others before that of herself.

Kelsie Balfour’s (11) resolution for 2012 is, “to stay commited at the gym and with my school work.”

Austin Underwood (11) said that for his resolution for 2012 he, “would like to live my life to the fullest more.”

Natalie Robison (10) wants to be more honest and truthful with everyone while, Brook King (10) says that she, “want[s] a second job, no trouble, lose six pounds, and make peace with people that I have hurt.”

Salina Harmon (10) would like to be kind to everyone and make people smile.

Luxie Bell-Duffy’s (10) resolution for 2012 is to, “let my parents and friends know how much I appreciate them, and also try not to bite my nails.”

I was thoroughly impressed by some of the resolutions for 2012 that my peers wish to achieve in order to become the very best version of their selves. If you haven’t resolved to change something about yourself or to help those around you for the upcoming year I challenge you to devise a strong resolution.

I resolve to, “keep doing my best in school and to stop biting my nails.”

Happy New Year PAHS!
