1. He’s real. Ron Paul campaigned for presidency in 1988 as a Libertarian. Many people classify Democrats as blue, Republicans as red, and Libertarians as purple.
This guy sticks to his guns. Despite the fact that no third-party candidate has ever won a presidential campaign, Ron Paul still tried to get in the primaries as a Libertarian.
On his campaign site, a quote from an unnamed congresswoman says, “There are few people in public life who, through thick and thin, rain or shine, stick to their principles. Ron Paul is one of those few.”
2. He has a legitimate reason to be Pro-Life. For those of you who know me, you know that I am vehemently Pro-Choice. Months ago before I started researching Ron Paul’s political stances, I had discarded him as a candidate because he’s Pro- Life, but then I came across an article on National Public Radio, NPR, (of all places) that explained why he was Pro-Life. Ron Paul is an obstetrician/gynecologist (OB/GYN), meaning he delivers babies and deals with lady problems. The article on NPR, which his campaign site mirrors, says that in medical school he witnessed an abortion of a child while at the same time a team of twenty doctors were attempting to save a baby of the same gestational age.
From that point on, he knew that he would focus on protecting human lives; born and unborn.
3. In 20 years of medical practice, Ron Paul never accepted a penny of government money. According to an NPR interview with Jack Pruett, Ron Paul’s partner at his practice in Lake Jackson, they treated Medicare and Medicaid patients the same as other patients, they just wouldn’t accept the federal money.
4. He was a flight surgeon in the National Guard. Ron Paul’s campaign website states, “Avoid long and expensive land wars that bankrupt our country by using constitutional means to capture or kill terrorist leaders who helped attack the U.S. and continue to plot further attacks.”
Dr. Paul wants to send troops somewhere with a clear mission, the tools to achieve it, and a tentative date of when they will be returning home instead of sticking them somewhere without information.
Former President Ronald Reagan said, “Ron Paul is one of the outstanding leaders fighting for a stronger national defense. As a former Air Force officer, he knows well the needs of our armed forces, and he always puts them first. We need to keep him fighting for our country.”
5. “He is known among both his colleagues in Congress and his constituents for his consistent voting record in the House of Representatives: Dr. Paul never votes for legislation unless the proposed measure is expressly authorized by the Constitution.” That’s pretty darn awesome if you ask me. The original concept of democracy to America’s founding fathers included low taxes, little government involvement in the private lives of citizens, and free-market trade. What do you know, Ron Paul stands for that, too! His campaign website states, “Dr. Paul is the leading spokesman in Washington for limited constitutional government, low taxes, free markets, and a return to sound monetary policies based on commodity-backed currency.”
