So far this season the boys’ tennis team is 3-0 with an overall record of 23-1. On April 4 it will go up against OES. “[They are] one of the better private schools in the city,” said head coach Joe Habes.

Sophomore Peter Jones, the defending PIL champion, has already posted a 2-0 record. For the next three years he will face his longtime rival, Cleveland freshman Alex Rovello, who is currently ranked 134th in the nation for 16 year olds, according to tennis information.com.

“Peter has done an exceptional job in playing through his injury,” said David Jacobson, junior. Jones is battling a cyst in his right wrist which is causing him to have to hit a one-handed backhand.

Jones is supported by senior Guillaume Lynn, and German exchange student Nik Trimborn, senior. “[Trimborn] is a phenomenal player and will make a great addition to our team,” Habes said.

The varsity team has compiled a 3-0 record and is coming off victories over Franklin, Catlin Gabel, and Grant. “I feel our team played well in the last three competitions, and is very capable of winning the PIL title this year,” Jacobson said.

The team will take spring break off and then compete against Benson April 3. “Benson should be an easy match for us,” junior Will Stevens said. “We are looking for those extra team points before districts.”
