Metrocenter recently started enforcing a rule that refuses entry to high school students to the mall during weekdays.

When numerous Greenway students went to Metro on the half-day of Feb. 12, they were informed that they would not be permitted to enter the mall due to the fact that they have a truancy rule.

Sophomore Julie Bridwell was one of many students who recently learned of the new policy when she and her friends went to Metro that day.

“When we got there a lot of people from Greenway were coming from the entrance and were saying that security wasn’t going to let us in,” Bridwell stated. “We didn’t believe them until we got to the door, and the security informed us that we weren’t allowed inside the mall.”

According to security personnel Erika Kogler, “The truancy policy states that during the weekday, individuals under the age of 18 are unable to enter the mall until 3 in the afternoon.”

However, Kogler also stated that students can enter Metro if a school is having a half-day.

“If students have their student ID with them, they’ll be escorted to the security offices and have to call their school,” Kogler said. “Once the school is contacted someone within the office will have to fax us a letter stating that the school has released the students early. If this is done, the individuals will then be able to stay.”
