"Charity begins at home, but should not end there"
-Thomas Fuller

A girl in a blue dress walked down the runway with style, holding a doll in her hand. When it was time for her to pose, she instead threw the doll towards the judges with indifference but received loud roars of excitement in return.

That is exactly what happened on March 15th when Amnesty International, Red Cross, and Key club hosted a charity event in the unique form of a fashion show.

Models and designers had to make original costumes that represent third world countries “... since the theme was helping children get education and getting them off streets...” Julia Song (10). The three judges would decide the best model and the best designer.

The cost of the ticket was were 5000 won apiece. However, if students were willing to donated books, the tickets were sold at the discounted to price of 3000 won. The fashion show started in the auditorium at 7:30.

The show was divided into four sessions, with each having the same models wearing different outfits representing different groups of countries. Models walked and posed during the sessions with attitude and flair. For example, Jessie Negara (10) even blew a kiss to the judges.

During the intervals between sessions, students from a variety of grades entertained the audience through their musical talent. In the first interval, Sharon Jung (12) sang a song, which grabbed the audience’s attention as while the models changed their outfits.

In the next one, Michelle Madeleine Meltke (12) and Jiln Kim (11) sang a duet. For the third interval, Ryan Synn (10) also sang a song while playing his guitar. In the last interval before the final decision, Becca Roberts (12), Peter Choo (12), John Ham (12), and Caroline Lee (12) sang a song with piano.

At the end of the fashion show, the three judges (faculty members) chose Pauline Kim as the best model and Han Ji Hahnji Jang as the best designer. The audience was ecstatic because the clothes that Hahnji designed were indeed astonishing.

The response from the students who attended the fashion show was positive.

Anna Moimoi (10) said, “I think that it was received well, everyone who was there seemed to enjoy it and people seemed open to hearing about the needs in third world countries. I think the night was very successful.”

Julia Song (10) said, “All the costumes from other groups really did a nice job of raising awareness of children's education in third world countries. The whole event was set up nicely with some extra performances. Overall, I think it was a nice experience for me to realize the seriousness of this issue.”
