YouTube comedian deserves more acknowledgment

HEYY, IT’S FREEEEED

That high-pitched voice just pierces through your ears, causing you to drag your mouse over to the bottom right corner of the screen and lower the volume before your granny wakes up.

Who is this Fred I’m speaking of? Why Fred Figglehorn from YouTube, of course.

The creator of Fred is 16 year old Lucas Cruikshank, who thought up the idea of this fictional character. Lucas basically plays Fred, a 6 year old with anger management problems living in an extremely dysfunctional family.

Sounds crazy, I know, but what’s crazier is that Fred has more than a million subscribers and he was the most subscribed user and first to hit a million out of everyone else on YouTube (since beaten by fellow YouTube comedian NigaHiga, but that’s another story).

The videos typically put Fred into odd situations such as seeing a therapist or defending his alcoholic mother.

He is infatuated with a girl named Judy, whom he is always trying to impress to get her to fall in love with him. Fred’s enemy is Kevin, who pokes fun at him and wins Judy’s affection. These characters and a few others are all played by Lucas, but we only hear them off screen.

Well, since Fred has so many subscribers, everyone must love him, right? I mean, isn’t he just so “hackin” hilarious? As surprising as this may seem … Fred is probably the most hated user on YouTube, and his electronically high-pitched voice can come off as annoying, matching his “unfunny personality,” as some claim.

Most people probably think that Fred is just funny because he digitally edits his voice to make it high pitched and fast.

Some just hate him completely because they think he doesn’t deserve to have so many subscribers and the fame.

It’s so ridiculous that there are even countless Anti-Fred groups, rebelling against his high-pitched glory.

What really bugs me is why so many people dislike Fred. Every time I watch a video of his, the comments below are about how much he sucks and shouldn’t even exist on this Earth.

Of course, the terms are a tiny bit harsher than that. But if he has over a million subscribers and is so popular why does Fred continue to be popular?

Lucas just doesn’t get enough credit. Not just anyone can digitally edit their voice and actually be good at it.

If anyone could do it, why aren’t they the ones with over a million subscribers? My point is, people judge too quickly, and it really is just “cool” to hate Fred now. Well, if hating Fred is so cool, liking him must be ice-cold.

I must be freezing then, because I love Fred. I think he’s actually pretty funny once you get pass the voice and his… unique facial expressions.

He’s got something great going for himself, being on television and even having Fred shirts being sold at popular stores. He’s successful at what he does, why should he stop?

So before you complain about how Fred needs to be banished from this Earth, remember that no one is putting a gun to your head, telling you to watch him. I’m sure he’s not really bothering you.

After all, the least you can do is banish him from your computer monitor, right?
